Pause, Rest, and Reflect

As the year winds down, I want to take a moment to encourage you to pause, rest, and reflect—not just for yourself but also for your team and loved ones.

For CEOs like you, the demands of work and life are rarely slow. Yet, intentional rest is a critical part of high performance. This is especially true for your First Team—the leadership team—whose sacrifices often go unnoticed. Their dedication to the organization frequently requires them to make personal sacrifices, whether it’s time away from family, delayed personal goals, or shouldering immense responsibilities to achieve collective success.

As you prepare for 2025, consider how moments of restoration and reconnection can energize you and your First Team for the challenges ahead. Please encourage them to pause and recharge, as their well-being is integral to the organization’s success.

At the Office – Rest with Purpose

  • Reflect on 2024 Wins and Lessons: Schedule a year-end review with your team to celebrate successes and acknowledge lessons learned. Closure builds momentum for what’s next and reinforces the sacrifices to achieve these milestones.
  • Streamline for the New Year: Delegate any remaining loose ends and set your 2025 priorities. A clear runway in January will set the tone for success and give your First Team a sense of alignment and readiness.
  • Show Gratitude: Take time to personally thank key players in your organization, especially your leadership team. Recognizing their contributions and sacrifices boosts morale and strengthens relationships.

At Home – Recharge with Intention

  • Unplug: Create space to step away from devices. This simple act allows your mind to rest and reconnect with the people around you.
  • Reconnect with Loved Ones: Engage in meaningful traditions or create new ones. These shared moments are where true restoration begins. Encourage your First Team to do the same, acknowledging the toll their roles can take on personal time.
  • Invest in Personal Wellness: Whether it’s indulging in a good book, savoring downtime, or setting intentions for 2025, prioritize activities that nourish your mind and spirit. Remind your First Team to prioritize their wellness as well; their energy fuels the organization.

The ability to lead with clarity and vision starts with taking care of yourself and supporting your leadership team in doing the same. By striking a balance between preparation and restoration, you’ll enter the new year recharged and ready to inspire those around you.

Wishing you, your First Team, and your families a joyous holiday season and a peaceful close to 2024.

Here’s to a successful and impactful 2025!
